Lymphatic Massage

Lymphatic Massage is a preventative remedial gentle slow light slow massage that uses repetitive gentle stroking, "stationary circles" and scooping massage techniques to induce a soothing, wholesome and calming effect on the body and mind.   This technique avoids collapsing the lymphatic vessels.  A course of 4-8 sessions is normally recommended to stimulate the lymphatic system.  After any massage session always drink lots of water .

This preventative remedial massage activates lymphatic circulation, stimulates the nervous system and strengthens the immune system.  The slow light rhythmic repetitive strokes move stagnant colourless lymphatic fluid around the body, clearing toxins; stimulating and strengthening the body’s natural healing process as well as encouraging younger healthier looking skin.

The Lymphatic System functions
to drain excess fluid from the body cells and tissues.  It helps in the purification of blood in the body.  The lymphatic system is a filter system that filters away bacteria, viruses, foreign substances, debris and toxins invading the body.   It destroys viruses and bacteria in the body.  It fights antigens and activates immune cells.  It is a defence mechanism for the body.  It defends the body against diseases by producing lymphocytes i.e. white blood cells, which fight infections and tumour cells e.g. cancer.  It helps the healing process of the body.  It absorbs and distributes fat soluble nutrients to the body.  The lymphatic system supports every other system in the body.  It interfaces throughout the body with other body systems e.g. digestive, immune, respiratory and circulatory.  It is part of the immune system which is the body's security force, protecting the body against invasion from outside and subversion from within.

We have twice as much lymph fluid in our body as blood.  The movement of our lymphatic system is powered by our breathing and movement.   If the movement of the lymph stopped entirely you would die in a matter of hours.

The Lymphatic System is made up of:

Thymus gland
where T-lymphocytes are generated/made

Spleen
filters blood and removes cellular debris.  It brings lymphocytes into contact with the blood.  It helps ward off blood borne diseases and antigens. It removes worn our red and white blood cells, platelets and any blood borne debris.

Tonsils

Intestines
have the largest concentration of lymph tissue in the body. They counteracts infections and absorbs fats.

Bone marrow
where white blood cells called B-lymphocytes are made/generated

Lymph nodes
filter lymph and fight infection (found around armpit, groin, etc.)

Thoracic duct
returns cleansed and enriched lymph to blood supply. Lymph slowly circulates in a one-way direction toward the thoracic duct through bodily movement and breathing.

Lymphatic vessels
move the lymph around the body.

Some signs that may indicate lymph blockage or sluggishness are:  lymphoedema, build up of fluids, feeling tired and toxic, with a heaviness in your abdomen, fatigue, mood swings, depression, skin breakouts, acnes, cellulite, mental fuzziness, joint pain, headaches, migraines, menstrual cramps, arthritis, breast tenderness, sinusitis, congestion, frequent cold and flu infections, allergies, food intolerance, stress, nausea, loss of appetite, muscle cramping, swollen glands and tissue swelling.

Ways to improve YOUR OWN lymphatic circulation
include lymphatic massage, lymphatic drainage, acupuncture, deep breathing and regular exercise. Try Yoga, Tai Chi, Aikido.  Also sweating via sauna, steam bath, exercise or sex!  Good nutrition and healthy life style help e.g. avoid processed foods, detoxify your body, have a colonic treatment, take liver enzymes.  Have an allergy and food intolerance test.  Drink plenty of purified or filtered water.
